Nigerian Wedding Party at Sovereign Suites
The venue of this wedding from ceremony, reception to evening party was at the grandeur Sovereign Suites. It was our first time here and we did an adequate recce pre-event to look at the sources of power and our positioning for each of the three locations.
The bride, Linda is luo and the groom, Mburu a Kikuyu but the beauty of this is that they had a Nigerian Wedding theme that they expected to be achieved through a large selection of the music being Naija and guests’ dress code.
The church ceremony was held on the gardens at the front of the compound. The set up was beautiful and guests lived up to the dress code.
The bridesmaids were first to come in with Ada Ada by Flavour ft Victoria Kimani, the coke studio version. The groomsmen were near the altar where they picked the maids one by one and they walked them to the seats.
The bride chose Elani’s Nikupende, which coincidentally had been released that week – talk of a hip bride and an entertainment company that is up to date with music. It is a very deep love song perfect for a wedding.
Pastor Milton Jumba of Mavuno Church the officiating pastor backed by the DJ led the praise and worship. Pastor Milton is a very cool and interesting minister from our experience that day. The songs the couple chose for this were Nigerian as well.
The song for signing the certificate was John Legend’s All of me but a rendition by Nigerian top saxophone player – Yemi Sax. The video is unavailable on YouTube due to copyright issues but you can watch other Yemi Sax renditions.
The recession song was Today Today by Eldee, which is a very thematic song for a wedding… “Today Today you become my wify…”
Unlike most entertainment companies that use the same P A System for the church and reception since the venue is the same, Discmen does a different set up at each location to save on down time of setting down at the church area, moving equipment to reception and setting up. This makes our events move seamless, as music is continuous.
The emcee for the event was the super hilarious and energetic Dr Ofweneke who left the crowd in stitches and did a wonderful job choreographing the dance moves. We have worked with him several times and it is always a pleasure. The reception was a very hyped session. The music was a fusion of Kikuyu, Luo and contemporary music with an emphasis of Naija music. Some of the requests by special groups like the bride’s friends and colleagues when presenting gifts were Tchelete, Doro Bucci and the groom’s colleagues was Me and You by Ommy Dimpoz as he previously worked in Tanzania.
The evening party venue was one of the rooms within the expansive mansion with a verandah next to the pool. We did a nice lighting set up to create a good ambience for the party and a disco light set up. A lot of people do not lay emphasis on the after party and where a client can afford, we normally recommend lighting to enhance your party and make it memorable.
Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud was the couple’s choice of the first dance song.

The bridesmaids led by the bride immediately after did a flash mob using Beyonce’s Love on Top for a routine for groom whom they made seat, watch and get a few sexy dance teases from the bride. The routine was a surprise only known to the DJ and the bridesmaids. The party kicked well into the night.
Sample a live mix set from that night by one of our Djs, Dj MK1.
The Discmen experience, what can I say, truly one of a kind and every bride’s dream, they do things you didn’t even know you wanted. As a music lover, the sound and music was one of the most important things to me, Discmen did not disappoint. They kept my guests and I dancing from the reception in the afternoon to the wee hours of the morning at the evening party. They were reliable, had great synergy with other suppliers and delivered to a tee as per the brief. I would not trade them for any other entertainment provider.****Linda (For Linda and Mburu)****
